I take the Suunto Core and The Casio Pathfinder out into the field to test the altimeter function. A note on the Casio: one thing you can do with it is measure the altitude at the starting point of your hike, and at different specific points where you stop (chalet, hot spring, etc.). That would be difficult with the Suunto because it gives you a broad overview not individual measurements. Keep in mind, this test is pretty unscientific.
